Dr. Watson chronicles here some of the more interesting detective cases that he and his good friend, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, have encountered during their association. We see the cases unfold as he does, scratch our heads as does he while the evidence is collected, and then marvel at the impeccable observations, remarkable insight, and doggedness which Holmes displays as he teases apart the tangled clues. Packaged as twelve distinct cases, by the end of this book your own senses of observation and deductive reasoning should be improved. It's easy to see why this book became a model for detective yarns!

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Audible Audio Edition) Arthur Conan Doyle Mark F Smith SAGA Egmont Books

Evan, I am a big fan of Sherlock Holmes and Sir Doyle, I must admit there are some adventures of Sherlock Holmes which I don't find so much amusing as I find the others. But, on the other side, nobody's perfect, and I will always read them again, even I know that I would not like it again. And sometimes, a miracle happens and I find in it something I didn't see in a first few readings and then I'm happy.
This book starts with one of my favorite story, A Scandal in Bohemia. It is a story about Irene Adler and this is a story when Sir Doyle first mentioned the woman Holmes calls The Woman. I really would like that Sir Doyle wrote more stories about Irene and Holmes, but alas! He didn't.
The second favorite story is The Boscombe Walley Mystery, one of those Holmes's country adventures, settled far away from London and its streets, same as my third favorite one, The Adventure of a Copper Beeches, from which I would cite Sherlock Holmes himself, to show what kind of the atmosphere both stories have:
"Do you know, Watson," said he, "that it is one of the curses of a mind with a turn like mine that I must look at everything with reference to my own special subject. You look at these scattered houses, and you are impressed by their beauty. I look at them, and the only thought which comes to me is a feeling of their isolation and of the impunity with which crime may be committed there."

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Audible Audio Edition) Arthur Conan Doyle Mark F Smith SAGA Egmont Books Reviews

Very poor print quality - the image on the front cover is heavily pixelated - like it was blown up from an icon. No table of contents and other small mistakes make the product feel sloppy. On one of the last few pages a small marking indicates the book was printed on March 1st, 2018 - only 2 days before I received it! Obviously printed on demand and the quality suffers for it.

I'm sure the stories are great though, I love Sherlock Holmes.
C'mon, it's Sherlock Holmes annoyiing, arrogant, but sharp as can be! I loved it.
Sir Dole, for all his personal foibles, made Holmes and Watson real and relevant to readers long after their (and his) time. His works continue to be a definitive study for how to write first person in fiction. My children have all read and love the Holmes cases, perfect volumes for a fall afternoon or rainy winter night.
Excellent mystery collection. Lots of plot twists and unexpected developments.
I've read the complete Sherlock Holmes series numerous times over the years and the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is still probably the most memorable short story collection. Frankly, if you haven't read Sherlock Holmes, you haven't read a detective mystery! Wonderful to have it downloaded on my kindle too!
I haven't read any of the books, by Arthur Conan Doyle, before. While Sherlock sometimes annoys me, I did enjoy the stories.
I must give credit to Arthur Conan Doyle for coming up with such a unique character as Sherlock Holmes. Holmes is arrogant, sure, but you cannot help but admiring him. He is always the smartest man in the room, whatever room he happens to be in, and he knows it. He drags his friend, Dr. Watson, around with him on his investigations, not because Watson can offer any insight into the case at hand, but because he knows his friend will document his case, writing pages that will make Holmes' genius as an investigator known to the world. Even though there are serious cases being investigated here, there is no lack of wit, particularly in the part of Sherlock Holmes, who approaches every case like a cat and mouse game, where he knows that HE is the cat. These short stories stand up with time and will entertain many enthusiasts of contemporary mystery stories. The Adventures of Sherlock Homes was my first time reading any of the Holmes work by Doyle, and I find myself looking forward to reading much more.
